Defending Civil Rights In Texas And Across The Nation

A Legacy Of Justice For All

The firm’s founding partner, Jay Ellwanger, was inspired by his family’s role in the civil rights movement. His uncle, the Rev. Joe Ellwanger, led the first march of white Alabamians through the streets of Selma in support of voting rights. He participated with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in several seminal moments of the Civil Rights Movement and was sent by Dr. King to meet with President Johnson at the White House to urge passage of the Voting Rights Act. Jay Ellwanger’s father, David, also a lawyer, faced death threats from the KKK and ran for the Alabama state senate in 1966 to unseat a staunch segregationist.

Fighting Against Today’s
Injustices

Today, Jay Ellwanger and David Henderson, continue to use their work to further those same principles of equal rights for all, standing up and doing their part when it comes to discrimination and civil rights. The team at Ellwanger Henderson works to fight injustices that still exist against individuals based on race, national origin, gender and sexual orientation.
